What is the ESC ?

The ESC is a commission of IASPEI, which is associated to IUGG and its aim is to promote seismological studies and projects in Europe, countries bordering the Mediterranean and immediate neighbours; an area from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge to the Urals and the Arctic ocean to northern Africa.

The mission of the European Seismological Commission is to support seismology within the scientific community of the European and Mediterranean countries by promoting research studies, extending and enhancing scientific co-operation and providing training for young scientists.
The ESC holds its General Assembly every two years in a different country. France is hosting this event for the first time in over 30 years (Strasbourg, 1978), and for only the second time since the ESC first met in 1952. The last meeting was held in Crete, Greece (September 2008).

Conscious of its unique position and of its role in the development of cooperation in the Euro-Med region, the EMSC will help students and young scientists from Mediterranean countries to attend the ESC2010.

The ESC2010 is being organized by the EMSC/CSEM,
with the active support of the Observatoire de Recherche Méditerranéen de l'Environnement and the Laboratoire Géosciences Montpellier.
